One Stop BIM Solution
In the era of Industry 4.0, Building Information Modeling (BIM) plays an increasingly crucial role in enhancing efficiency, transparency, and collaboration across the construction industry. BIM introduces a new integrated workflow among architects, engineers, contractors, and project owners through a single digital model that unifies all building information.
BIM (Building Information Modeling) is a technology-based approach that allows all stakeholders in a construction project to work within one connected system. With BIM, the entire lifecycle, from planning, design, and construction to operation, can be executed more accurately and efficiently because all data is interconnected through an intelligent 3D model.
In Indonesia, BIM has also become a new standard in the construction sector. In fact, there are specific regulations requiring its implementation for certain types of projects. According to the Regulation of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) No. 22 of 2018 on the Construction of State Buildings, “BIM is mandatory for non-simple state buildings with a total floor area exceeding 2,000 m² and more than two stories.” Under this regulation, BIM is used to produce various deliverables, including architectural drawings, structural and MEP systems, landscaping, work volume calculations, and cost estimation.
The Ministry of PUPR has implemented BIM in numerous strategic infrastructure projects across Indonesia. These include the renovation of the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Main Stadium, Manahan Stadium Solo, Pasar Atas Bukittinggi, Papua Aquatic Arena, Istora Bangkit Papua, and several market revitalization projects such as Pasar Pariaman (Sumatera Barat), Pasar Sukawati (Gianyar, Bali), Pasar Renteng (Lombok Tengah), Pasar Legi (Ponorogo), and Pasar Sentral (Gorontalo). BIM has also been utilized in educational facility developments, including the State Polytechnic of Malang and IAIN Palu (Sulawesi Tengah).
Government Regulation No. 16 of 2021 further strengthens the legal foundation for BIM adoption in Indonesia. The regulation emphasizes that for construction activities categorized as “technology-intensive” and “capital-intensive”, the use of BIM — including advanced dimensions such as 5D BIM or higher — is mandatory. This demonstrates the government’s commitment to expanding BIM implementation beyond state buildings, covering large-scale and complex infrastructure projects such as bridges, dams, and major public facilities. Furthermore, the Ministry of PUPR has established a national BIM Roadmap consisting of four key phases: Adoption → Digitalization → Collaboration → Integration. This roadmap serves as a guideline for government institutions and industry stakeholders in adopting BIM progressively and sustainably. The ministry has also formed the PUPR BIM Task Force to strengthen cross-sector coordination and ensure consistent BIM implementation across projects. In various official statements, PUPR has emphasized that BIM will become a mandatory tool in government infrastructure development, marking a new era of digital transformation in Indonesia’s construction industry.
